
SAMEER C THAHIR – Film Director
Sameer C. Thahir studied in the creative
atmosphere of Maharajas College Eranakulam, and the friendships formed based on
creative pursuits during that period is still the driving factor for him in
film making. Sameer's mentor Amal Neerad for whom he handled cinematography in
"Big B", charismatic director Anwar Rasheed, Ashiq abu for whom
Sameer moved the camera in Daddy cool, and Nationally acclaimed cinematographer
Rajeev Ravi for whom Sameer has assisted in films were just some of them from
Maharajas friendship circle.
Sameer
Thahir evolved from his passion for photography to wedding films to Ad films to
feature films through a period of time . He says the inspiration for making his
own first film Chappa-Kurish as he wanted to make a film which he would like to
see which portrays the contrasts of real life. Chappa-Kurish was outcome of one
year of writing , which when released demolished the conventional clichés which
were deep rooted in Malayalam film industry in all aspects of film making.
Sameer's next film as a director and co-producer
is a soul searching "road movie" which explores politics , religion
and identity through a graceful love story, “Neelakasham
Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi” (English: Blue Skies, Green Waters, Red
Earth) and written by Hashir Muhammad. The film features Dulquer
Salmaan, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Sunny Wayne
in the lead roles.
The
film began shooting in the north-eastern state of Nagaland
in February 2013 and completed its shoot in June 2013. The film was shot at
real locations in seven Indian states, Kerala, Karnataka,
Andhra
Pradesh, Orissa,
West Bengal,
Nagaland
and Sikkim.The
film was released to a good response in August 2013.
